Viral Post About MAGA Transphobes Who Say 'Gulf Of America' Is Totally On Point

A post on Threads about how the same people who call the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America" refuse to respect trans people's names and identities is going viral.

A viral post on Threads calling out MAGA transphobes who say "Gulf of America" is spot on, showcasing how the same people who call the Gulf of Mexico by this new name refuse to respect transgender people's names and identities.

On his first day in office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order changing the "Gulf of Mexico" to the "Gulf of America." The order also reversed an Obama-era decision and changed the name of the Alaskan mountain "Denali" back to "Mount McKinley."

Typically, changing a geographic name involves a lengthy process, taking at least six months as the U.S. Board on Geographic Names consults with states, tribes, mapmakers, and other stakeholders. However, Trump’s order called for the change to take effect within just 30 days.

Google has stated it will update the name on its maps once it is reflected in official government records. While other countries are not required to adopt the new name, international organizations would need to address any inconsistencies.

Amid all this, trans athlete Chris Mosier made the following salient point:

“If you immediately started calling the Gulf of Mexico the ‘Gulf of America’ because someone told you it was it’s [sic] new name, YOU ARE VERY CAPABLE OF RESPECTING TRANS PEOPLE’S NAMES & PRONOUNS."

You can see his post below.

Preferred gender pronouns are the pronouns a person prefers to be used when they are referred to, in order to indicate their gender identity.

It has become increasingly common for people to display their pronouns in the workplace or on social media profiles. Because pronouns are not indicative of a person's sexual orientation, not everyone who shares their pronouns necessarily identifies as LGBTQ+.

Straight, cisgender people often choose to share and display their pronouns to let others, especially LGBTQ+ individuals, know they are in a safe space, especially if their gender identity is often questioned or if they are regularly misgendered.

The use of gender pronouns in the workplace, for instance, helps normalize and encourage discussions about gender in such a way that transgender and non-binary individuals can feel safe and included.

Mosier's post said it all.

MAGA's cognitive dissonance is truly next level.

Things People Bought As An Adult Because They Weren't Allowed To Have Them As A Kid

Not all childhoods are created equal. No matter how much love might have been experienced in the home, children realize when there are things in life that they're missing out on because of money or circumstance. There are also children in tougher homes where they could have had some of the niceties if their parents only had said yes.

So it only stands to reason that some of these children turned into adults would indulge a little bit and gift themselves some of the things they always wanted.
